So, now we are safely in Ireland. We had issues with our cottage so we moved on to County Sligo.
We found a cute cottage (“Granny Macs”, according to Airbnb) a little south of Sligo town to stay in for 10 days.
Duncan gave her approval…
… so we settled in.
Our first touring stop was Queen Maeve’s Cairn. We drove over to Knocknarea (love these Irish names!), parked, and headed up the path. (From Kevin: The “path” was rivers, puddles, mud, and sheep doots.) One thing we’ve learned in our trip in Ireland so far: there are always sheep. Often there are cows and sometimes there are horses. But there are always sheep.
Most of you are here for the pictures … so, less talk - more pictures!
It was a nice, cloudy, rainy August day. Just like home. And gorgeous.
Queen Maeve was buried 1,000 years before the pyramids (or so the locals say). Kevin was disappointed that she was not receiving when we arrived.
Our next hike (two days later) was to see the Caves of Keash, a short drive from our cottage.
There were sheep.
On the way home, we stopped at Ballymote1 and visited Ballymote Castle.
It was a long day. Duncan waited up.
Next up… more hiking! More cairns! More sheep!
Bally means “place of” in Irish. Not big enough to be a town or even a village. About the size of a large Starbucks.
This sounds like so much fun! So glad you're sharing! :)
This is AWESOME!!! I just talked about you and Kevin yesterday. Definitely miss you at the office....But this is MUCH better..lol
